Nollywood faith-based film Agbara Nla: The Return has grossed N408.3m at the Nigerian box office, emerging as the second-highest-grossing Nollywood film released in 2026.
The film, directed by Damilola Mike-Bamiloye, trails Call of My Life, Blessing Uzzi’s hit movie, which has earned more than N900m.
Distributor Nile Entertainment announced the latest figure in an Instagram post on Monday, celebrating the film’s continued cinema run and describing it as the “No. 1 title for four consecutive weekends”.
The company also described the production as the highest-grossing film released in October and the highest-grossing faith-based title of all time.
“₦408.3 MILLION AND STILL MAKING HISTORY!” the distributor wrote, thanking Nigerian cinema audiences for supporting the film.
The latest earnings mark an increase of N53.8m from the N354.5m previously reported after the film’s release on October 1.
The growth highlights the film’s sustained box-office performance weeks after its debut, suggesting that audience interest has continued beyond its opening period.
For Nollywood, the result also points to the commercial potential of faith-based productions when established religious audiences, cinema distribution and familiar stories combine to attract moviegoers.
Agbara Nla: The Return is a remake of the 33-year-old Christian classic produced by Mount Zion Film Productions. The new version was co-produced by Mount Zion Film Productions, Sozo Films and Circuits.
The film has also reached audiences outside Nigeria, recording an opening-weekend gross of $120,660 in selected cinemas in the United Kingdom and Canada. Nile Entertainment partnered with IFEC for its distribution across Europe.
The production’s performance adds to a growing conversation about the range of stories capable of drawing Nigerian audiences to cinemas, beyond conventional romantic comedies, thrillers and mainstream commercial dramas.
Its faith-based appeal may also offer filmmakers and distributors an opportunity to reach audiences whose cinema choices are shaped by religious interests and familiarity with Christian storytelling.
However, the film’s second-place position in the 2026 Nollywood box office rankings remains behind Call of My Life, whose reported earnings exceed N900m.
Reports had shown that Agbara Nla: The Return earned N354.5m following its October 1 cinema release.
Nile Entertainment General Manager, Nowe Segun-Ojo, had attributed the company’s performance to its distribution strategy since it began operations in August 2024.
With the film still showing in cinemas nationwide, its final box-office total could rise further, although its eventual ranking will depend on its remaining cinema run and the performance of other releases.
